Growing Confidence One Student at a Time
10 Reasons to Try Online Art Education
Growing up is hard. Really hard. As a mom of seven kids, I’ve seen them struggle for a variety of reasons, whether it’s friend problems or grades. One thing I’ve learned from the years of raising children and being an elementary art teacher is that you can’t solve their problems, but you can give them the tools to do so. So much of children’s problems are rooted in a lack of confidence, which is why I wanted to start online art education that gives children confidence through creativity. When children see what they are capable of, confidence grows and happiness exudes, which is all we can hope for as parents and educators.
At Great Artist Program we develop visual art education for kindergartners through 12th grade for students to develop their confidence through creativity. Art is critical to a student’s confidence and development. But it’s not just me claiming why art is important, research proves WHY every student needs art.
10 Reasons to Try Online Art Education
1. DEVELOP MOTOR, LANGUAGE, AND SOCIAL SKILLS
While creating art children’s motor, language, and social skills are put to the test, and muscles are being worked. Strengthening these skills helps children across all subjects with things like holding a pencil and being able to write, to learning new terms and topics to discuss with friends and parents.
2. BOOST CRITICAL THINKING AND OBSERVATION
Easily one of my favorite things about art is the ability to think outside of the box. Even if you’re copying a famous work of art, there’s the chance to make it your own, with your own interpretation and colors. True creativity exudes when you are able to freely express yourself through art.
3. EXPLORE IMAGINATION AND EMOTION
Being a child can be hard between friendship problems and ever-changing hormones, the emotions and internal struggles can be hard. Art gives children an outlet to express these feelings and release their emotions through a healthy outlet.
4. ADAPT AND APPLY SKILLS ACROSS SUBJECTS
Did you know that art can include things like language and math? It’s true! Additionally, while children are working through things like math problems, they can learn to visualize the solutions.
5. MAKE DECISIONS AND TAKE RISKS
So much of children’s lives are structured around routine and rules. Line up when you’re supposed to, speak when told, raise your hand to speak. But art releases this rigidness! Do you want to paint outside of the lines? Great! Use red instead of yellow? Fantastic! Children are allowed to make their own art decisions and take risks in what they are creating, allowing them to be PROUD of their decisions.
6. LEARN CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING AND INNOVATION
Although art is subjective, and anyone can be an artist, sometimes we mess up when creating our work of art. Art creates a safe space to learn how to fix problems, adapt when things don’t go right, and work through problems.
7. GAIN GREATER SELF-CONFIDENCE
Everyone can be an artist! Whether it’s your first time picking up a paint brush or your 100th, you would be amazed at what you can create. When you step back from your piece of art and say “I did that” it gives you the confidence that you ARE capable of doing great things.
8. TRY NEW THINGS
There’s a reason why art is so popular, art is fun! There are so many different ways to create art, whether it’s using paint, watercolors, or crayons. Or using canvas, paper, or sidewalks! There is truly an endless amount of different types of art that you can create.
9. ACHIEVE HIGHER ATTENDANCE AND TEST SCORES
Art is FUN! Children love when it’s an art day at school. Any reason for children to have fun at school and have them look forward to attending means better attendance for schools. And the more children are at school, the better their test scores will be.
10. ARE WELL-ROUNDED GLOBAL CITIZENS
Art propels you outside of your comfort zone and your own world. By experiencing different types of art and learning the history of art, it transports you to different locations and different times. Art can expand your horizons and open your world to different cultures and people.
Can you tell that online art education is truly my passion? The benefits of art are endless, and nothing makes me happier than building the confidence of the children. After all, they are our future leaders, educators, and world leaders.
